Coello & Tapia Make It Five in a Row — Triay & Brea Win Three-Hour War in Málaga
The Málaga P1 produced two finals that couldn't have been more different. One lasted under an hour. The other took three.
Arturo Coello and Agustín Tapia won their 5th consecutive Premier Padel title. They beat Juan Lebrón and Leo Augsburger 6-2, 6-2 — so one-sided Padeladdict called it "a monologue."
Tapia reached 60 career titles. They are now tricampeones at Málaga — three straight years owning this venue. Seven titles in 2026, 24+ consecutive wins, and the men's tour looking at a pair nobody can touch.
Augsburger was visibly overwhelmed during changeovers. Lebrón tried tricks and flair to find openings — nothing worked. It was their third final against Coello/Tapia, and they've won only once (Brussels).
The women's final was everything the men's wasn't. Gemma Triay and Delfi Brea faced Paula Josemaría and Bea González on González's home court. The three-hour battle ended 7-5, 3-6, 7-6(3).
Josemaría/González held a 5-1 head-to-head advantage coming in. They'd owned this matchup all season. Not on Sunday.
The third-set tiebreak was pure nerves — Josemaría and González rushed their shots. Triay and Brea kept the ball in play, won the tiebreak 7-3, and claimed their first P1 title of 2026. Gemma Triay now stands alone in second place on the all-time women's titles list — just two behind Alejandra Salazar's record.

Leo Augsburger has the talent to beat anyone on his best day. The problem: his best day keeps running into Coello and Tapia.
The 21-year-old from Posadas, Misiones — near the Paraguay border — plays the backhand side at 1.90m, with a wingspan that dominates the net. He paired with Juan Lebrón in late 2025 and has reached three finals together — all against Coello/Tapia. They've won once (Brussels); Málaga wasn't their day: 6-2, 6-2.
Augsburger's honesty sets him apart. Cameras caught him during changeovers openly admitting he couldn't find any gaps. That vulnerability in a sport built on bravado is rare.
He's 21 with three major finals on his résumé. The ceiling is enormous — if the mental game catches up.

Coello and Tapia aren't just dominant — they're becoming a problem for the men's game. When a 6-2, 6-2 P1 final is the expected result, the tour has a competitive-balance issue.
The women's tour delivers three-hour tiebreak epics on the same Sunday. The men's tour delivers a coronation under 60 minutes. Augsburger throwing his hands up on the bench is the visual summary of what every other men's pair feels.
Premier Padel needs drama. Right now, only the women's draw has it. If they're smart, they'll lead broadcasts with the women's final and stop pretending the men's final is the main event.
